On a purpose-built island connected to the Corniche, covering an area of 45,000 square meters, traditional Islamic architecture meets the 21st century in this iconic building. Founded in 2008, the MIA was the first of the major capital developments and flagship projects initiated by Qatar Museums. Designed by Chinese American architect, I. M. Pei, the MIA stands on Doha’s Corniche, with panoramic views across Doha’s waterfront.

It features a design by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel that is inspired by the desert rose, a radiating series of petal-shaped minerals formed below the ground as sand turns into sedimentary rock in arid regions, particularly in sabkhas.
